FACT #2: Worldwide, sixteen women die every hour from unsafe abortion

Yeah. That's right. Sixteen women every hour. (World Heath Organization)

Restrictive government laws on abortion often force the practice underground, contributing to the morbidity and mortality rates associated with unsafe abortion.

Is this the vision Students for Life has for America?

In 1996, the Panamerican Health Organization revealed that abortion is the primary cause of maternal death in:
  • Argentina
  • Chile
  • Guatemala
  • Panama
  • Paraguay
  • Peru
Abortion is the second leading cause of maternal mortality in Costa Rica, and the third in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua. Thankfully, in the United States women still have the right to the full range of legal and safe reproductive choices.

Think it through. Educate yourself & get the facts now.

Unprofessional (and professional) abortion services are dangerous. That is undeniable.

Still, it is unacceptable that (a) abortion is an option at all and (b) there is not a culture which encourages the birth and adoption of babies.

People are free to choose what they want to do, but not every choice ought to be protected by law.

Abortions will happen regardless of whether or not they are considered legal in a country or not. They have been for hundreds of years and just because they are made illegal will mean that they will stop. Women will continue finding ways to end their pregnancies, and if made illegal it will only encourage them to seek the more health hazardous options. Whether you're pro-choice or not, THAT is unacceptable.

Of course women will contine to find ways to end their pregnacies; they have being doing so for centuries. Yet, I am still uncertain why doing something over and over makes a behavior acceptable or why "they'll do it anyway" is in any way a coherent argument for a pro-choice position. You could apply that reasoning to a variety of existing crimes in the attempt to protect the alleged criminal from punishment. "He'll rob anyway, so let's just make robbery 'safe, legal, and rare.'"

As always, the debate isn't over whether the woman has a right to end her pregnacy (that "right to privacy" is protected by law), but whether the woman and society would be better off if abortion was illegal. Between the trauma, short and long-term health risks, and a variety of other dangers involved with abortion, it has been shown to be very dangerous for a woman to get an abortion. As a matter of public concern for the health of the woman, wouldn't it be better to encourage a mother to bring her baby to term and save her from the feeling of "needing to get an abortion"? What about all the infertile parents looking to raise a child? What about the fact that 1/4 of our generation is missing? What about the fact that abortion creates a culture in which sex is increasingly divorced from its consequences? Do these concerns not speak to a public need to discourage the widespread use of abortion?

It's my body. End of story.

I'm so glad to hear you've concerned yourself so much with my health Daniel it's sweet. However there are quite a few decisions I've been more than capable of making for myself with the help of my doctor. But you seem to think you can do me one better so help me out: Would you like to research my asthma medications? They have adverse effects on my heart and heart disease is the number one killer of women in America. Or maybe you'd like to take a look at my choice to be a vegetarian while being anemic? If not careful I could start fainting from a lack of iron and/or cease to keep having my period. Maybe you'd like to find some research and give me your expert opinion on my choice to have my wisdom teeth taken out? Please tell me all about the risks of going under anesthesia. Perhaps women should be asked to keep all of their health information including their menstrual cycle public so that society can best benefit from our ability to reproduce? Because that's all we are isn't it? Wombs. But wait- I'm sorry, I forgot. You're not my doctor.

I'd recommend you back off from speaking on behalf of women. It’s a weak position for anyone but especially for you as a man to speak from. You don't have a uterus and you will never face an unplanned pregnancy. How dare you speak for any minority group that you cannot claim as part of your identity? What gives you the right to act as my voice?

Think of a better argument. Start with providing a source for the claims you make.

If the decision to abort a pregnancy involved only your health, I admit that the conversation would be a lot more difficult, as we would have to resort to defining what is a "person" as defined under the 14th Amendment. Unfortunately, courts have suggested that an unborn baby is not a person for purposes of the 14th Amendment. Right now, you are free to abort as many pregnancies as you want for pretty much any reason.

What is possible, however, is for laws to be passed recognizing that widespread, legalized abortion poses benefits to society that are too small and detriments that are too great. In other words, it is very well possible that at the same time we recognize that a child is not a person we can make it illegal to abort a baby under certain circumstances. The law would be perfectly within its rights to do so.

Since I'm not speaking on behalf of women but on behalf of all the unborn children which have not seen the light of day and on behalf of a generation which is missing a 1/4 of its peers, it simply doesn't matter if I don't have a uterus. Though I guess you will need another woman to convince you that abortion is beyond safe.

I sincerely wish that legislation can be passed to assist single mothers in their pregnancies and through the first years of motherhood. At the same time, I also wish that those babies can be brought to term so that they may experience life for themselves and contribute to society.

and when something like this happen, I ask to all the women in this world WHY? why if you can keep that baby you get pregnant? and this question don't apply in rape case, is not better take the baby and put them in adoption? think about it.
